Caledonian Modular has been awarded a £27 million turnkey contract by south London’s Lewisham Council, to deliver a total of 65 affordable homes in the area.
The deal will see the 65 homes supplied for people in need of local housing, alongside a range of non-residential spaces.
As part of the contract, two schemes were awarded to Caledonian under Lewisham Council’s Precision Manufactured Housing strategy.
One of the schemes, a £16 million project on Edwards Street, will see 34 accommodation units and two commercial units built. Exterior work on this project will include associated soft and hard landscaping, while cycle parking and bin stores will also be provided.
The other, an £11 million scheme at Home Park on Lewisham’s Winchfield Road, will see 31 social homes delivered.
The Home Park project will include a full demolition of the existing disused office building at the site, seeing it replaced by a part three, part four, part five storey building with eight one bedroom home, 16 two bedroom, and seven three bedroom self-contained flats, alongside a commercial unit at the Home Park Housing Office. On the exterior of the Housing Office, associated landscaping will be carried out, with provision of three disabled parking spaces, 64 bicycle spaces, and bin storage.
Caledonian Modular CEO Paul Lang commented: “By specifying our ‘turnkey’ modular solution, Lewisham Homes will achieve a modern, high quality build that is completed in significantly less time than a traditional approach.
“We designed the Lewisham Homes’ project, as we do with all our schemes, using building information modelling, whilst our precision manufacturing will ensure occupants are provided with a high quality, energy efficient and comfortable living environment.
“Having recently completed an accommodation contract in the south west of England, which was one of the largest modular residential developments in Europe with nearly 1,500 bedrooms, we are confident of delivering this latest sizeable project.”
