Cornwall-based alternative education provider Transferable Skills Training has been named Vocational Education & Training Centre of the Year for South West England in the 2021 LUXlife Magazine Private Education Awards.
The LUXlife Magazine 2021 Private Education Awards seek to honour all of those who have gone above and beyond in the sector over the previous year, which has been blighted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Transferable Skills Training is already a multi-award-winning training centre, founded by director Nikki Markham MBE to provide innovative educational solutions to complex social issues at community level.
Nikki and her organisation tend to work with individuals living in extreme poverty who are isolated through mental health issues, life-limiting illnesses or living with special educational needs, and provide these people with an alternative form of education.
Speaking to The Parliamentary Review, Nikki explained: “Our success lies in our ability to understand the economic, social, emotional and physical difficulties that many vulnerable people with complex needs experience, and to provide a holistic approach to supporting learners throughout their education and beyond.
“As a result, we have consistently been in the top ten for retention and success rates among alternative education centres within England, achieving a 91 to 93 percentile for the last three years. We have developed a unique approach to education by providing innovative educational programmes that address community needs, while being totally individualised in order to support each learner and work around their barriers and their needs.”
This year's comprehensive set of Private Education Awards recognises sector providers of all kinds, plus those involved in other areas of the industry such as the administration, supply of goods and services to educational enterprises, and those who work on the front line of subject and course delivery.
Nominated candidates are scrutinised by LUXlife Magazine’s team of specialist researchers and the final awards are allocated following a thorough evaluation of the skills and services that each nominee offers, client and customer feedback, testimonials and wider market reputation.
The chosen winners must demonstrate a high client satisfaction rate and extensive expertise within the sector, displaying dedication to their work and an ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation.
The South West Vocational Education & Training Centre of the Year Award comes as another major milestone for founder Nikki and her organisation in 2021, after she was recognised with an MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to communities in the South West of England, particularly during Covid-19.
