As 2021 has seen more people in the UK get talking about climate change with the nation’s successful hosting of the COP26 climate summit, numerous businesses have been joining the effort to cut carbon emissions.
Direct Healthcare Solutions, a patient handling and bathroom safety solutions provider, is one firm that has sought to play its part by signing up to The Climate Pledge.
The Climate Pledge is a global movement launched by Amazon boss Jeff Bezos in 2019. Signatory organisations promise to mobilise toward reaching the goals of the Paris Agreement and becoming net-zero carbon by 2040, a decade ahead of schedule.
At the time of writing, 217 businesses have committed to the pledge, with Direct Healthcare Solutions having been among the first 100 to do so earlier in the year.
Direct Healthcare Solutions has found itself among some household names in business that have signed up, with Bezos’ Amazon, Heineken, Alaska Airlines and Visa all throwing their weight behind the movement.
As part of the effort, signatory companies have promised to take science-based, high-impact actions to tackle climate change by innovating in the areas of supply chain efficiency, sustainable transportation, circular economy, clean energy solutions, and many others.
Some major progress has been seen in sustainable product design and development, taking single-use materials out of packaging supply chains, and delivering solutions which help customers reduce their carbon footprint also.
Speaking about The Climate Pledge, Bezos commented: “Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge and called on other companies to reach the Paris Agreement ten years early - more than 200 companies with over $1.4 trillion in global annual revenues and more than five million employees have now signed the pledge.”
