Taylor Wimpey has offered an in-depth look into one of its exciting new developments at Forge’s Wood in Crawley, West Sussex, designed by Phoenix Interior Design’s Susan White.

White’s focus for the Forge’s Wood showhome was to give the apartment a modern, contemporary and classic feel, all of which appeal to first time buyers and direct sellers.

She explains: “From layering artwork, balancing colours to carefully selecting décor pieces, we worked to ensure each detail of the home showcasing the best of the apartment’s interior.

“My involvement was mainly in helping specify or even choose the flooring for instance, the kitchen colours, and working to really emphasise the products that are in here that work for the purchaser profile. Taylor Wimpey have been brilliant by giving me that creative freedom, and we’ve then been able to put in some strong colours and then balance those in the extra space to make the whole thing feel a lot warmer.

“In the living room space in this build, it is all about what I like to call the ‘little gem’ details. We’ve put in an amazing little sausage dog accessory that just blinks in with that little gold gem detail, with the hot and warming gold colours of that ornament seeping into this space.”

Highlighting the importance of having an element of the natural world inside the home, White added: “What we’ve learnt over the last couple of years with outdoor space through the Covid pandemic is that either you’ve got it, or you haven’t. The solution is to ensure there’s planting inside the home. We want our home to feel soft on the inside.”

White also took the time to offer helpful advice to first-time buyers who may be moving into their first home, in order to help tailor their new surroundings to their desires.

“For first-time buyers who maybe have spent most of their money on the deposit and want to come into their new home and work with a blank canvas, it’s really important to upscale. Go to flea markets, make a day of it, and make it fun. Whatever you bring back, make sure it’s an item that is personal to you. If you want something especially from a market or shop, then save up for it.”
