Shetland Salt, a family-run business based in Scalloway, Shetland, has been nominated for the condiments prize at the 2022 Great British Food Awards.
The business is run by Leaders Council member Kaye Sandison – who also owns and runs local childcare service Hame Fae Hame Ltd – and husband Davie Sandison, alongside their daughter, Laura Hughes.
Their locally made product will now face a judging panel containing celebrity chefs, food critics, Michelin-star restaurant owners, influencers and buyers.
Shetland Salt’s produce can be purchased in shops across Shetland and is gleaned from local water sources. It is not the first time that it has made headlines either, after being recognised at the 2019 and 2021 Great Taste Awards for quality of product.
Following the latest award shortlisting for the business, Kaye, Davie and Laura said in a statement: “We are really excited that our handmade sea salt has been shortlisted for this national award.
“As a small family business, producing an artisan product, we are over the moon to get this far in rigorous taste testing from thousands of entries.”
The winners of the 2022 Great British Food Awards will be announced on October 28 and all at The Leaders Council wish Kaye and the family the very best of luck!
