BrandSafway acquires Big City Access

BrandSafway, the world’s largest provider of integrated commercial and industrial services, has successfully acquired Big City Access, a portfolio company of Rock Hill Capital Group.

Big City Access, established in 2002 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, is a premier provider of scaffolding and other access solutions in the Texas commercial construction market. Employing 160 people, it is one of the largest independently owned and run commercial scaffolding providers in the south-eastern United States, and has worked with area builders, contractors, construction managers and developers to provide safe and efficient solutions for a vast array of projects over the last eighteen years.

Tim Oleszczuk, managing director of TKO Miller, a privately-held US investment bank which advised Big City Access on the sale, said: “Barbara Roberts and her team, together with Rock Hill, built one of the most impressive and professionalised commercial scaffolding companies in North America. The company had reached a point where it was ready for its next level of growth, and this transaction offers a number of benefits for both Big City Access and BrandSafway.

“BrandSafway will benefit from Big City’s strong brand and reputation in the region while also expanding its presence in the robust Texas commercial market, and Big City will have access to the resources, expertise, and growth that come with being a part of the world’s largest access equipment provider.”

For BrandSafway, the acquisition of Big City is the latest step in its major investment and acquisitions process which is yielding rapid growth and global expansion, with names such as Dutch steel-coating specialist Venko already part of BrandSafway’s growing portfolio of businesses.

Another major player now under the BrandSafway umbrella is the UK’s largest, most well-respected and successful independent scaffolding firm, Lyndon Scaffolding. The firm - which dates back to the 1960s - was acquired in 2018 in order to join forces with SGB and give rise to the Lyndon SGB brand which is now the market leader in size, safety and standards.

Speaking to The Parliamentary Review, BrandSafway’s global vice-president of sales Russell Adams said: “BrandSafway is continuing its major investment and acquisitions process, with rapid growth and global expansion. We will also continue the expansion of our global branch network: it is our aim to bring our services closer to major infrastructure project customers and provide simple solutions to their complex requirements, under one roof and with the input of the wider community. Acquisitions facilitate us achieving that.”

BrandSafway plans to cash in on Big City Access’s strong reputation and regional brand, and the business will be rebranded for market as Big City Access by BrandSafway.

BrandSafway was formed in 2017 via the merger of Brand Energy & Infrastructure and Safway Group. It is now the world’s largest provider of integrated commercial and industrial services, including scaffolding/access, insulation, coating, fireproofing, and refractory services, among others.

Headquartered in Kennesaw, Georgia and operating a network of 340 strategic locations across 30 countries, BrandSafway currently employs and trains more than 32,000 employees, with revenues of close to $5 billion, and assets and equipment worth $4.2 billion. The business enjoys longstanding working relationships with global brands including BP, Esso, ExxonMobil, Vinci, Phillips 66, Motiva and Dow, alongside many others in the petrochemical, oil and gas, offshore, infrastructure, rail, nuclear and construction sectors. The company also works with the majority of main contractors in the UK.
