The Royal College of Podiatry has issued a statement thanking its members for donations of supplies to help provide humanitarian support to those affected by the armed conflict in Ukraine.

The full statement issued by the Royal College of Podiatry reads as follows:

“As the secretary of state for health and social care shared his message of support to Ukrainian Health and Social Care workers across the UK, we too are thinking of all affected by the situation in Ukraine and the far-reaching effects around the world.

“The College would also like to thank our members who in recent days have donated medical supplies, turned their clinics into local collection points for donations and contributed to the humanitarian support for the people of Ukraine.

“We would encourage anyone who is in a position to help and wishes to do so, to make humanitarian donations through the established aid routes.”

The health secretary, Sajid Javid, had previously said the following in regards to the conflict:

“My thoughts – like all of you – are with the people of Ukraine after this appalling and unprovoked attack that president Putin has unleashed on them. I know many of us will be thinking about the Ukrainian people and everything going on there.

"The UK will provide up to £220 million in aid to Ukraine – including vital medical supplies."

The Home Office has this week launched an extended visa scheme to help Ukrainian refugees seek shelter in the UK, meaning that parents, grandparents and siblings of British nationals or those with settled status will also be eligible alongside children and partners.

It has also been confirmed that the government will set out details in the near future for a more extensive refugee scheme, enabling Ukrainians with no previous links to the UK to apply for entry.

According to the UN, more than one million Ukrainians have fled the country since Russia launched its military offensive.
