Relay Rugs, a subsidiary brand of Melrose Interiors Ltd, is celebrating a quadruple success at the annual Carpet Recycling UK conference and awards showpiece held at the end of June.

Hosted by not-for-profit Carpet Recycling UK, the conference aims to promote the use of textile flooring as a sustainable resource and recognises those who go above and beyond to reduce the levels of carpet waste going to landfill.

At the 2022 conference held in Solihull, West Midlands, the Relay brand has been named winner of the Recycler of the Year Award, while managing director Andy Murphy received the special recognition of being named Recycling Champion of the Year.

Furthermore, Relay received Highly Commended awards in the Circular Economy Initiative and Reuse Member of the Year categories.

Murphy, who gave a presentation on Relay’s journey toward a circular economy during the two-day long conference over June 29 and June 30, commented: “In a couple of words – absolutely chuffed! I’m delighted the team has received this recognition for their innovation & creativity in solving what is an increasingly high-profile issue, and one that will affect consumers moving forward.

“We’re excited to progress our circular initiatives in building a solution for take-back & recycling of cotton-rich home & fashion garments.”

Relay, a subsidiary brand of Bradford-based Melrose Interiors Ltd, is a brand of rug offering cost-effective, sustainably focused rugs.

Having traded for over 50 years and now servicing some of the largest online and high-street retail chains in the country, Melrose Interiors is aiming to make the Relay brand the leader in eco-friendly flooring. The Relay range, therefore, includes rugs and floors made from recycled and recyclable yarns, natural fibres and excess material that would otherwise be diverted to waste or landfill. Relay is also piloting a customer take-back scheme for end-of-use rugs and cotton-rich fashion items.

Murphy added: “We are a company that seamlessly blends traditional textile skills with the latest manufacturing technology, underpinned by leading edge IT solutions. We are constantly looking at new markets, processes and solutions, but none of this would be possible without our people.

“We are extremely proud of our staff who embody our core values and determination to delight our customers.”
