Plans for the proposed redevelopment of an existing largely derelict brownfield site at Colnbrook-by-Pass near London Heathrow Airport could help provide a simple solution to ease the housing crisis and provide accommodation for those displaced from Ukraine and seeking shelter in the UK, a business leader has said.
This significant opportunity seeks to benefit from its proximity to the surrounding areas of Heathrow Airport and the nearby industrial areas, to provide residential accommodation to respond to the local housing demand for the surrounding area and capitalising on the vast employment opportunities across a key economic zone.
The initiative supports the ambitious plans for the success and growth of the borough as a place where people work, rest, play and stay. Securing a home is central to the quality of life as it affects physical and mental health, job prospects, educational attainment and the ability for people to prosper. Supporting economic growth requires the provision of a full range of housing opportunities in good quality accommodation that local residents can afford.
The proposal would see around 250 modular residential units and ancillary commercial and retail areas developed to provide amenities including a gym, food and beverage and retail outlets for local residents and occupiers.
The proposed development will provide an innovative, affordable and sustainable solution using modular construction from a UK bespoke developer of residential modular buildings. The modular residential units are professionally designed, customised units of accommodation available in a range of sizes to fit the needs and the scale of land available. These units are fully compliant with current UK Construction and Housing Standards and can be delivered within weeks.
Sri Nadarajah leads a team of experts at City Rivergate Ltd, one of the firms behind the redevelopment. In their view, the concept for the redevelopment and the convenience of using modular construction offers a straightforward solution that responds to the immediate and critical housing needs in the UK and is readily available to accommodate those fleeing the conflict in Ukraine.
City Rivergate Ltd commented: “This redevelopment not only offers a solution to local demand for housing, but also offers a means of increasing the UK’s ability to immediately provide much needed shelter to families at a time of humanitarian crisis. We believe this critical housing project should be of great interest to government.
“Furthermore, the proposed modular residential units are an effective, economic, yet tailor-made solution, which can be scaled and easily replicated to meet pressing needs and a variety of demands across the country”.
