Magnavale to deliver largest and most energy-efficient cold storage unit in the UK

Leading temperature-controlled food specialist, Magnavale, has announced that it has received both planning permission and necessary funding to build a single, fully automated cold store which will have the capacity to hold 96,000 pallets.

Given that it is being built as an entirely new store, the build in Easton, Lincolnshire, will be the largest of its kind ever to be constructed in the UK.

Magnavale commented that the new facility will be run entirely on renewable energy, making it the most efficient cold storage unit in Europe.

Chief operating officer, Amanda Cogan, said: “The new store in Easton will play a key role in the future of our business and the cold storage sector more generally. Whether it is in terms of operational efficiency or carbon efficiency, our new facility will set the standard for the next generation of cold stores.

“The food industry and the UK more generally demand more from us as a key link in the supply chain, and we intend to live up to our mission statement of offering retailers and manufacturers alike the opportunity to shorten, simplify and de-risk their supply chains while also delivering a significant saving in their carbon footprint.”

The construction of the new unit will create 230 new jobs over two years and 300 permanent roles to operate the facility going forward, providing the local economy with a much-needed boost as it looks to bounce back from the Covid-19 pandemic.
