AIM’s Allison Kemp becomes MBE
The managing director of AIM Commercial Services Ltd has made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2020 for services to transport and logistics.
Allison Kemp established A.I.M. Commercial Services Ltd in 2004 and has overseen its progression to becoming a national training provider for the logistics sector. She has also chaired the East Midlands Freight Council since 2011 and is the first woman to hold the post of deputy chair of the Freight Transport Association National Council.
Commenting on the award, Kemp said, ‘[I am] amazed and humbled by the award even when seeing it in print. I think I just do my job and never thought it would be recognised in this way.’
Timefinders director opens up about health and welfare attorneyship
Alison Hesketh, the founder and director of South of England-based Timefinders, has revealed a personal story about her own experience of becoming a health and welfare attorney for one of her dearest friends.
Hesketh, who set up Timefinders in 2010 to provide practical help and emotional support for older people, spoke of her honour ‘to be trusted with such an important responsibility.’
Given Hesketh’s immense experience, both with Timefinders and previously with medical and health related charities, it is unsurprising that she was chosen for such a role. Nonetheless, as is made clear in the frank and honest piece, there was much that she did not know.
‘Although I have known my friend for over 35 years, I suddenly realized how much I would struggle if I was asked about her views on life-sustaining treatment,’ Hesketh explains, ‘how much I didn’t know about her likes and dislikes; what made her anxious or comforted; her routines or beliefs and, selfishly, just how much I would worry about making the right decisions about her care and treatment.’
She also explained how the advent of Covid-19 has brought added pressures:
‘Many people will have heard of a DNACPR form (Do not attempt cardiopulmonary Resuscitation or DNR). With the advent of Covid-19, many will now have thought about artificial ventilation. How would your Donor want you to act? Would they want you to accept or refuse consent for them to be put into a deep sleep and placed on a Ventilator or for them to receive other non-invasive oxygen therapy? What are their thoughts on heart bypasses and other serious operations, cancer treatments, artificial nutrition and hydration, antibiotics?’

Several headteachers heap praise on TLC Live
Online tutoring experts, TLC Live, have come in for a raft of praise from a number of headteachers across the country.
With students looking to catch up from five months of lost contact time, online tutoring may be more relevant now than ever, and TLC Live, which is led by CEO Simon Barnes, looks well place to deal with any increases in demand.
The organisation was founded in 2011, it offers tutoring across Great Britain and Northern Ireland and has several thousand hours worth of lessons online.
