Genuine Care deemed ‘Outstanding’ by CQC
The Care Quality Commission has awarded Kent-based care provider, Genuine Care, an Outstanding rating in its latest inspection.
The rating is the highest that the CQC can possibly give. In their summary, the CQC said:
‘All feedback was overwhelmingly positive from people, relatives, health and social care professionals, commissioners and staff for all aspects of the service. Care staff were well trained, highly caring and competent; and engaged with the provider who empowered them to provide high quality care and support with continuity for people.
‘People were supported to stay well and have a good quality of life in line with their wishes and relatives were confident their loved ones were safe and well cared for. The service was highly flexible, and person centred so people could have as much or as little support as they needed. People were truly respected and supported to maintain control of their lives and were involved as much as possible.
‘People were provided with excellent care at the end of their lives. People were enabled to have a pain free and positive death, in that a compassionate environment was created for them in line with their wishes.
‘The provider had earned an excellent reputation and was part of their local community. They had continued to find new ways to support people, their relatives and their local community with the development of their drop-in centre.’
The company, which was founded by Kathy Maslen in 2008, prides itself on being about to offer people outstanding care in their own homes.

Protec reveal secrets of Queen Elizabeth’s success
Fire and Security experts Protec have shone a light on one of their most impressive projects.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham is one of the UK’s super hospitals and is the largest UK project of its kind outside of the Olympics development. A project of such importance needed state-of-the-art fire and security systems and it was down to Protec to deliver.
As such, the whole building was fitted with Protec Algo-Tec™ Fire Detection and Alarm System, which provides multiple layers of protection including via its specially designed and patented interface units, which control the hospital's smoke damper systems, which means that operators can see all areas and the dampers can be closed to prevent any smoke and toxic fumes from spreading.
Robert Cash, Protec Fire Detection plc Project Manager said: "As a new build, we have been able to design and install the ideal network systems to make this a future-proof landmark development. Additionally with the integration of smoke damper control we have probably shaved around £100K from the overall project cost."
In total, 1500 smoke dampers were installed in the acute wing alone, with a total of 237 kilometres of cable used across the site.
