Film Ahoy, the online indie film streaming platform launched by UK Producer Dean Fisher [Bow Street Media], is delighted to announce a new working relationship with Gary Collins, CEO of Red Rock Entertainment, to help grow the company with an injection of circa £2 million; building their existing audience and acquiring new exciting titles, new genre content and high-profile performers.
Through the platform, consumers are able to watch content through Film Ahoy for free with commercial breaks every twenty minutes, or pay £1 to enjoy the content free of advertisements.
The model is based on Advertising Video on Demand [AVOD] and Transactional Video on Demand [TVOD], with AVOD known to be one of the fastest growing sectors in the film industry. Indeed, global AVOD revenue is expected to double its 2017 revenue to reach $29 billion by 2022.
Income from the Film Ahoy product will be generated by a combination of advertising revenue and pay per view fees. It is eventually Bow Street Media’s ambition to begin to produce original Film Ahoy content in the same vein as Netflix, once it is clear which types of content perform most strongly and are most appealing to audiences. With acquisitions based on algorithms, it leaves many promising independent films overlooked on their platform and therefore without distribution, according to Bow Street Media managing director and CEO, Dean Fisher.
Fisher commented: “We hope to make Film Ahoy a viable alternative for producers. If we can obtain exclusive content, we will reach new audiences and keep the interest of returning consumers.
“We will not be focusing on genres and will offer consumers a wide range of content of all shapes and sizes. This is what we believe our USP is. If consumers are in the mood to laugh, they will be able to watch great comedies. If they want to switch off and watch action, we will have the perfect film for them. The same with the need to be educated and having a great range of documentaries.”
To help establish Film Ahoy as a viable product, Bow Street Media Ltd have developed a complex back-end system which allows them to IP block, build their SEO, manage content, and offer detailed reporting to their content providers.
Their future developments will be to adapt the platform to become more application-based, so people can consume content more easily on their smart devices and TVs.
