Following the Prime Minister's announcement that schools would be closing from Friday for all except the children of key workers, there have been other updates about critical services across the country.
TfL have announced that they will be running restricted services across the capital from next week, including cancelling the weekend Night Tube and running "Saturday service" across all modes of public transport.
They have also announced that as many as 40 Underground stations across all major lines could face closure in the next few days.
In other news, the pound has fallen to its lowest level against the dollar since 1985 -- now only worth $1.15. The government has alsoannounced that it will be setting out plans based on "nudge theory" to stop people touching their face -- something that is apparently critical if the spread of the virus is to be suppressed.
Elsewhere in the world, China has reported no new domestic cases for the first time since late December, but healthcare experts are concerned that there will be a "second wave" of cases across South East Asia. Supposedly, South Korea, China and Singapore are the countries most at risk of experiencing further jumps as a result of clusters of "imported" cases.
The European Central Bank has also announced there will be a 750 billion euro emergency fund to offset government and corporate debt across Europe, in order to soften the economic impact the virus may have.
Finally, US President Donald Trump has described himself as a "wartime president" while elaborating on the severity of the situation in the country. He did, however, also resolve that he believed the country would "defeat the invisible enemy... even faster than we thought".
The next Leaders Council coronavirus update will follow this evening, after the Prime Minister's daily update.
