Caroline Wright is the Director General of the British Educational Suppliers Association [BESA], the UK’s national industry association for educational products and services. She also heads up EdTech Exchange, Europe’s largest EdTech Founders networking group.

Career Overview

Originally from a journalistic background, Caroline swapped reporting for The Evening Echo in Essex for working in the Civil Service. While working within the public sector, she occupied several roles heading up communications for the Department for Education [DfE], Ofsted, Partnerships for Schools, the Cabinet Office and the now defunct Department of Trade and Industry.

In 2012, Caroline joined BESA and was appointed Director General of the organisation in 2016. Today, she represents BESA on numerous government and sector specific advisory boards. This includes the Education Sector Advisory Group for the Department for International Trade [DIT].

Within the UK education suppliers’ sector, Caroline has occupied several key positions, including co-chairing the DfE’s EdTech Leadership Group, the Worlddidac Council, and the Education Investor Advisory Board.

Aside from her main roles, Caroline is a trustee of the Education Media Centre and judges several industry awards such as the UK Trade Association Excellence Awards, the Council of British International Schools Awards, and the Education Investor Awards. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Royal Geographical Society, member of the Royal Institution, friend of the Windsor Leadership Trust, and corporate freeman of the Worshipful Company of Stationers.

In July 2021, Caroline appeared on a Leaders Council of Great Britain & Northern Ireland podcast, discussing the importance of leadership and the impact it has had on their career to date.

Education

Caroline attended Royal Holloway, University of London, from which she graduated with a BSc in Geography in 1995.
