Her Royal Highness, Anne, The Princess Royal, visited Merryhue Farm in February, to review the Together We Can Succeed project and engage with the work that it has been carrying out.
The Together We Can Succeed programme is a collaboration between not-for-profit community interest companies Work Skills South West [WSSW], Transferable Skills Training [TST] and Battling On. The programme's purpose is to re-engage vulnerable young people who have disengaged from education.
Each of the contributing organisations brings its own set of expertise, knowledge and skills to the programme. It has proven immensely successful to date, gaining widespread acclaim, winning several awards and being featured on BBC Comic Relief in 2015.
The Princess Royal visited Transferable Skills Training’s Merryhue Farm site in Cornwall, a 124-acre working farm with a wide variety of livestock and poultry which has been farmed in an environmentally sensitive way for more than 60 years. The farm plays host to the Grown That Way project which seeks to build resilience and employability through plant and land-based learning and skills training to support communities in a world being reshaped by climate change.
As well as being introduced to the work being done on the ground by the project’s ambassadors, The Princess Royal engaged with presenters from other local groups present on the day, including Age UK, Tamar Grow Local and Plymouth University.
