As the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite by pushing food prices higher, frozen bakery supplier Speciality Breads has shared two useful hacks to keep your loaf fresher for longer periods of time.

Writing on the Speciality Breads news blog, managing director Simon Cannell says: “As the cost-of-living crisis spirals, the interweb is filling up with innovative tips to keep bread fresh. The world is facing difficult times but there might be an unexpected silver lining in the form of less waste. When belts tighten, people tend to throw away less food.”

Cannell highlights one tip originating from Australia, where locals have found an innovative way of restoring a stale loaf to a seemingly fresh state.

“Simply run your stale loaf under the tap then bake it in the oven at 160 degrees for six minutes and voila…the dry bread is revived, as good as new!

“Just don’t do it when your bread has gone mouldy. That’s taking waste reduction a bit too far!”

Another method which Speciality Breads shared was more focused on keeping bread fresher for longer, sourced from social media platform TikTok.

Cannell explains: “If you want your bread to stay fresh for as long as three weeks, simply add a stick of celery to the bread bag.”

The Speciality Breads boss elaborated that the celery not only help keep the bread fresh, but it also staves off mould growth, keeping the product in date for longer.
