PM reappoints Lynton as Tate Trustee

Prime minister Boris Johnson has extended businessman Michael Lynton’s term as a Trustee of the Tate by four years.

Lynton, the incumbent chairman of Snap Inc, was initially appointed a Tate Trustee on May 17, 2017, on a four-year term, which expired on June 21 this year.

Now, the PM has reappointed him as Trustee for a further four years, effective from June 22, 2021, to June 21, 2025.

The Trustee role is not remunerated, and the reappointment was carried out in line with the Governance Code on Public Appointments issued by the Cabinet Office.

Harvard educated Lynton counts Warner Music Group and the Smithsonian among his other current business interests, and he notably served as the CEO of Sony Entertainment from April 2012 until February 2017. In the role, he oversaw Sony’s whole global entertainment business, encompassing Music Entertainment, Sony/ATV Music Publishing and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Before his stint with Sony, which first started in 2004 with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Lynton worked for Time Warner and enjoyed spells as CEO of AOL Europe, president of AOL International and president of Time Warner International.

Lynton also helped facilitate the acquisition of Putnam Inc by Penguin Group, of which he was chairman and CEO earlier in his career.
