Mission Care impacting the community with Improving Lives initiative and charity shops

Mission Care is a Christian charity that has provided person-centred care for adults since 1904 and now runs five homes in Kent and London.

Four of the homes are registered to provide full nursing care for elderly people with nursing needs, or older people living with dementia, while the fifth home is a registered residential home for younger adults with physical disabilities.

The Kent homes are located on Elmwood, Greenhill, Willett House and Homefield, while its London location is on Love Walk in Camberwell.

In addition to the work the team conducts across its homes, it has established two initiatives - Improving Lives and the charity shops - aimed at supporting people within the community.

Improving Lives helps vulnerable adults and those living with dementia to engage in a range of activities, such as days out that allow them to enjoy new experiences.

The team have a keen focus on the importance of regular activities and encourage residents to improve their lives through social interactions and getting active.

The scheme has seen Mission Care take residents to the Tower London, the coastal town of Hastings, the London Eye and the Cutty Sark.

Improving Lives is funded by the Mission Care charity shops, named On a Mission, with first location opened in 1993 on Chatterton Road in Bromley, Kent.

On a Mission, in addition to the café also in Bromley, plays a vital role in the local community by organising events throughout the year, while also promoting the work of Mission Care.

A second shop on Crescent Way, Orpington, was opened in 2017 to provide further support for the community and has helped fund more of the objectives for the Improving Lives programme.
