A time where the United Nations is making a concerted effort to tackle misinformation surrounding Covid-19, one business executive has sought to highlight to other leaders the importance of clarity within various aspects of leadership in order to avoid such issues in the workplace.
Gemma Borgert, managing director of pfm medical UK - the UK arm of healthcare solutions developer, producer and vendor, pfm medical - explained that leaders must show clarity in how they go about communicating with their teams, setting expectations, outlining their vision and then be transparent in how they go about delivering that vision.
Speaking on the Leaders Council podcast back in June, Borgert said: “It is critical how we all interpret what a leader is. What I have discovered in recent years is that clarity is one of the most important things: clarity in how you communicate with your team, how you set expectations, what your vision is, and the authenticity by following and delivering on the vision.”
With clarity at the heart of a business, Borgert explained that this then sets the foundation for a strong culture which is paramount in executing business strategy.
She said: “Clarity builds trust and provides the foundation for a really strong culture which can be a powerful tool within an organisation. Business theorist Peter Drucker once said that ‘culture eats strategy for breakfast’ and that is very true and is a huge part of it.”
Discussing her own responsibilities as a leader, Borgert added that all good leaders must be able to listen to the ideas and contributions of others, integrate those ideas into strategy accordingly, and then act upon that information.
“As a leader myself, my job is to listen. I must listen to my experts, my consultants, our customers and our patients and then act on all the information that they have given me.”
During the month of June, the global pfm medical company based in Germany, made the move of expanding its medical devices portfolio and the outreach of its culture, announcing that it would be acquiring fellow German business Hirtz & Co. KG [HiCo].
Founded in 1971 as a family-run business, pfm medical has been providing medical devices, services and therapy options in its main focus fields of surgery, histotechnology, cardiovascular technologies and infusions for over 40 years. HiCo, a medium-sized medical devices company focused on products such as hypothermia and hyperthermia systems, bedsore prevention solutions and inhalation devices, has struggled to keep pace with its competition in recent years and has been faced with significant challenges arising from the stringent EU Medical Device Regulation.
By joining the pfm medical family, HiCo is now under the wing of a company which has the requisite knowledge and expertise in its areas of weakness, which can help strengthen its position and reputation as a manufacturer of premium quality medical devices.
Assuming control of HiCo’s portfolio and employees, pfm medical will ensure that the business continues to operate smoothly and will retain HiCo as a legally independent partner with its own customers and suppliers.
Chairman of the pfm medical global management board, Aurel Schoeller, commented: “By acquiring the HiCo products and brand, we are extending our competence as a specialist manufacturer of medical devices.
“The HiCo product portfolio represents an ideal supplement to our offering at pfm medical. Our vision is to offer products and solutions that are proven to be effective. We strive constantly to help users of our solutions deliver better quality work, and to improve quality of life for patients – that is our mission. This is precisely what the HiCo products can help us to achieve in the new focus fields.”
