Frodsham Leisure Centre recently received a £110,000 in investment to carry out improvements to the facilities.
As part of the future offer for leisure, health and wellbeing services provided by Brio Leisure, Frodsham Leisure Centre has recently undergone an investment to its gym, fitness spaces, corridors, and changing and toilet provision. This investment has addressed both ongoing maintenance needs, but also brought these areas up to a modern and fit for purpose standard for users.
During the COVID-19 lockdown periods and safe business resumption to services, Brio has had to adapt key services, such as re-locating the gym and fitness classes, as the site was not COVID-19 safe in its previous locations. In addition to providing ongoing support to the health service through the sites use as a test and vaccine centre, it has only largely been the sports hall that has been able to be used.
Now that this wider refurbishment has taken place, activities can return to their previous locations, and sports hall bookings can resume.
The refurbishment is in response to both site need, and detailed customer feedback which took place with the local community following Cheshire West and Chester Council’s cabinet approval for the delivery of a new leisure model in November 2020. Further consultation with users of the centre and the local community will continue through the autumn, with the support of an external consultant.
The works have been undertaken by Qwest, another of Cheshire West and Chester Council companies.
"This investment has been a really important step in showing the local community the importance of supporting and recognising service needs in Frodsham," said facility manager Mark Swaffield.
"The whole COVID-19 period has brought to the fore the lack of appropriate facilities when operating under very different protocols, so I am delighted that the work has overcome a number of barriers to access. Feedback already from our members and users has been really positive, and we are seeing a great deal of new people too, following on from our open day event and current September membership campaign."
Councillor Louise Gittins, leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council added: "We are acutely aware of the important and valued community resource Frodsham leisure centre represents to the local community and I’m delighted that the centre is now able to resume some of its pre-pandemic activities. We’ll be working closely with residents over the next few months to look at next steps for the site."
Until December, Brio Leisure membership costs just £20 per month.
