Our latest leadership roundup includes a plea to law firms, advice for construction companies, and the commencement of a two-day international conference.

ETD’s international conference begins today

Today marks the start of a two-day international conference focussing on materials, inspection, monitoring and testing in the high temperature plant arena.

As a result of government-enforced restrictions, the conference will take place exclusively online. Nonetheless, it will feature 15 to 18 presentations per day with speakers from the UK, Italy, USA, Germany, Japan, China, Australia, Switzerland and South Korea.

The conference is being run by European Technology Development (ETD). Led by Dr Ahmed Shibli, ETD are an engineering, consulting and R&D company who specialise in high temperature plant inspection and life assessment/extension, maintenance, materials and engineering issues in all type of power generating and petrochemical/ process plants.

ETD have said that ‘the aim of this international conference is to provide an international platform for the exchange of knowledge, information, experience and data related to power and process plant materials, inspection, monitoring and condition/ life assessment issues.’

McClure Solictors’ MD urges law firms to take part in Will Aid

Andrew Robertson, managing director of McClure Solicitors, has urged fellow law firms to join him in taking part in Will Aid.

The scheme, which has been running for thirty years, encourages solicitors to waive their usual fees for the month of November and instead offer a percentage of their time for free to write basic wills in return for a donation to nine UK charities.

Urging other law firms to follow McClure’s lead, Robertson said, ‘Each year all our staff look forward to November. Will Aid is a fantastic opportunity for us every year to meet new clients, give them great legal advice and, in the process, raise valuable funds for charity.

‘In addition to donations, many people also opt to leave a gift in their will for the Will Aid charities with the amount of legacy pledges increasing year on year.’

McClure’s have been the top donating firm for the past two years.

OMS advise construction companies over health and safety

Health and Safety experts OMS have advised construction companies across the country that HSE (Health and Safety Executive) is currently in the process of carrying out its latest Construction Health inspection initiative.

As such, OMS have issued helpful guidance for anyone working within the industry.

Writing on their own website, the company, which is led by managing director Clive Omerod, said, ‘We would advise all construction-related companies to ensure that their sites are not only fully COVID-secure, but that they have in place the necessary surveys, risk assessments, method statements, information and training, that can be evidenced during this initiative and beyond.’
