Frontrunner Sir Keir Starmer has been tipped to win the Labour leadership contest in the first round with more than 50 per cent of the vote, following a poll carried out by YouGov and Sky News.
The poll contains feedback from 1,323 people, including trade unionists, registered Labour supporters and party members, consisting of both men and women and individuals of all age ranges and social classes across the country.
The poll predicts Holborn & St Pancras MP Sir Keir will garner 53 per cent of the vote, comfortably ahead of Rebecca Long-Bailey and Lisa Nandy who were on 31 per cent and 16 per cent respectively.
Long-Bailey was the favoured candidate for Brexit voters in the poll, while Sir Keir won the most backing among remainers.
Sir Keir has also been boosted by the public endorsement of Labour mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
Khan said outside City Hall: “I will be voting for Keir Starmer to be the next Labour leader.
"I’ve known Keir for decades. He’s the best person to unite our party, take the fight to the Tories and put Labour in government.”
Voting is now open to the Labour membership and party supporters, with result announced and the new party leader appointed on April 4.
