Forresters, a firm of patent and trademark attorneys and intellectual property law experts, has recently brought six new trainees on board across its London, Birmingham and Munich offices as it reaffirms its commitment to developing the talents of the future.
Forresters’ new cohort of trainees includes Elliot Farrell, Timothy Bone, Jacob Tyszka, Benjamin Page, Niama Knapp and Katarina Stefkova.
Elliot Farrell and Timothy Bone have both joined the technology and engineering team in the Forresters London office.
Farrell is a University of Birmingham graduate with a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He boasts industry experience working across the medical device and aerospace sectors as a research and development engineer.
Farrell said: “A career as a patent attorney appealed to me as it presents an opportunity to deploy my technical skills in a new discipline with a diverse array of clients and subject matters.
“Forresters caught my eye as it promised a challenging but supportive environment to develop new skills. I have had a warm welcome to the team here at Forresters and look forward to my future journey towards qualification.”
Bone graduated from Loughborough University in 2020 with a Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering and, prior to joining Forresters, spent several years working in the aerospace industry.
Like Farrell, Bone is excited about making the transition from a role in industry to one in intellectual property services with Forresters.
Bone explained: “A career as a patent attorney appealed to me, as it presented an opportunity to apply my technical knowledge to evolving technologies, while challenging myself to develop a new skill set.
“Forresters caught my attention because of its commitment to providing clear advice to its diverse range of clients. Having spent some time working here, I have appreciated how approachable the team is and look forward to throwing myself into the exciting variety of work we do here.”
In the firm’s Birmingham office, Jacob Tyszka and Benjamin Page have both joined the technology and engineering team.
Tyszka graduated from Imperial College London in 2015, having read Materials Science & Engineering. Prior to joining Forresters, he spent five years working at British Steel, and he said that Forresters’ “Clear Direction” ethos particularly resonated with him in his decision to join.
“In my time in industry, I found that distilling complex information into key ideas and straightforward solutions greatly helped the odds of a successful project, something that I will carry over to my work with clients and colleagues at Forresters,” Tyszka said.
“I’m looking forward to becoming a fully qualified patent attorney and to learning about a wider variety of new technologies.”
Meanwhile, Page joins Forresters as a trainee patent attorney straight after completing a Master of Physics degree at the University of Warwick.
He said: “A career in intellectual property, and specifically as a patent attorney, appealed to me because it allows me to apply my scientific understanding to a huge range of different technologies, factoring in both legal and commercial considerations.
“I was impressed by the firm’s commitment to trainee development through a combination of in-house training, external courses, and real-world case work.
“While there is still some way to go before qualification, I am excited and motivated to begin my career as a patent attorney at one of Europe’s leading patent law firms.”
Over in Germany at the Forresters Munich office, Niama Knapp and Katarina Stefkova have both joined the life sciences team.
Knapp has completed a BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Ghent in Belgium, as well as an MSc in Advanced Pharmacology from the University of Strathclyde.
She commented: “Having spent time working in various sectors throughout my studies, I came to realise that my ideal career choice would relate to scientific research in an office environment. The role of a patent attorney meets these personal requirements perfectly. It also ticks another important box: allowing me to continue improving my scientific knowledge at the same time as keeping up with present-day and future trends and developments.
“While looking through the training options at other firms, I found something that sets Forresters apart: ‘Clear Direction’, not only for the client but for Forresters’ trainees too in their careers. The atmosphere here in the Munich office is friendly, inclusive and a pleasure to be a part of.”
Stefkova is a graduate of the University of Birmingham having attained a First Class Master’s degree in Chemistry with Pharmacology, before going on to complete a PhD at Cardiff University. Like Knapp, she is also excited about applying the problem-solving skills she developed in academia to her new role at the firm, working on some of the newest scientific developments.
“By joining Forresters, I get to play an active role in and apply my technical knowledge to some of the latest innovations from all over the world,” Stefkova explained.
“Furthermore, I have joined Forresters because of its high-quality, hands-on approach to training new patent attorneys. The fact that everybody at Forresters is approachable and friendly, makes working on real-life cases from the very beginning a lot less intimidating.”
The Leaders Council would like to wish all six of Forresters’ cohort of new trainees the very best of luck in their professional careers as the firm continues to set an example of how to lay the ground for the next generation of industry experts and leaders.
