As the UK increasingly commits toward further infrastructure building and development as part of the government’s Build Back Better agenda, market leader Global Tunnelling Experts has committed to educating the next generation of tunnelling and construction industry workers by opening a brand-new training academy at its head office in Portishead.
Announcing the launch of the new training academy, managing director Kevin Browning said: “It’s a proud moment to reflect on a vision that has now become a reality, and I am grateful for the hard work and dedication the team at Global Tunnelling Experts have shown to have put this together in such a short period of time.
“The new training academy creates an opportunity for us to be at the forefront of the construction industry, delivering specialist training courses to our own in-house personnel and meeting client needs alike. This will provide and support national and local construction companies with the necessary qualification certification to deliver construction personnel.”
GTE’s new state-of-the-art training centre can hold up to fourteen delegates per day, delivering CITB Site Safety Plus training courses across general worker, supervisory and management roles.
The first course to be launched at the new site, the Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme [SSSTS] will run over Wednesday July 14 and Thursday July 15, 2021.
Browning added: “We are dedicated to providing face-to-face courses. We believe this approach, following the Covid guidelines, is the best way for our delegates to interact, focus and engage within each of the courses being held.
“With new advances in artificial intelligence, we have future plans to introduce virtual reality [VR] training towards key operational roles on Tunnel Boring Machines. This will invite opportunities for new and existing industry personnel to train on the latest underground technology, building a future underground.”
