Duke and Duchess of Sussex fulfil final engagement as royals

Prince Harry and Meghan took in their final engagement as royals yesterday, at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the service alongside the Queen and other senior royals, including Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Both Harry and Meghan have carried out a number of public engagements in the run up to their departure from the royal family.

The end of this month will see the couple no longer able to use their formal HRH titles and they will no longer receive public money.

The service marked the first occasion the Sussexes appeared in public with other senior royals, following the announcement that they intended to "step back" from their position in January.

Chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society, Dr Linda Yueh reflected on the theme of the service, noting that “contributing from far away” was in keeping with the fact “that even as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped down from formal duties they'll still be contributing in a less formal capacity to the Commonwealth in the years to come."

It is believed that Meghan and Harry will return to Canada where they are currently residing with their son Archie.

The Sussexes will embark upon a range of commercial deals and charity projects as part of their break from the Royal Family.

The couple will continue to use Frogmore Cottage and aides disclosed that they will be in UK on a regular basis.

It is also believed that they will attend a number of royal events, however, the capacity in which they do so is as yet unclear.

These arrangements are subject to review in the coming year.
