Chancellor Rishi Sunak is set to announce a package of support for the self-employed later on today at the government's daily press conference.
Further news on the battle against Covid-19 in the UK will follow in a Leaders Council briefing this evening. There are now 9,500 confirmed cases in the UK with 465 deaths, but experts estimate the actual figure is significantly higher.
Beyond Britain, the US death toll has passed 1,000 with 70,000 confirmed cases. The country has also recently passed a stimulus bill worth approximately $2 trillion, which will see a payment of $1,200 for most adults in the country.
In India, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced a package worth £19 billion to "bail out" the poorest citizens in the country, including offering cash payments and free food to "those who need immediate help".
And finally, in China, there have been no new cases in Wuhan since Tuesday, following almost a week without a single case. Wuhan is set to come out of lockdown on April 8, while travel restrictions will be lifted in the remainder of the province from Tuesday, March 31.
There are now almost 500,000 confirmed cases of Covid-19 across the world.
