Coronavirus update: Global confirmed cases near 2 million

Leaders of some of the UK's largest charities have asked health secretary Matt Hancock to support social care through the pandemic.

This comes as the official death toll has come under fire for being solely based on hospital deaths. Work and pensions secretary Therese Coffey said this was only because the measurement was "accurate and quick".

In Europe, the latest country to ease lockdown is Austria, which has started reopening thousands of shops today.

It is a completely different story in Asia, however, as Indian PM Narendra Modi has announced that lockdown measures will be in place until at least May 3.

Finally, Donald Trump has been the subject of much discussion today after his press conference on Easter Monday where he called CBS reporter Paula Reid "disgraceful" for her manner of questioning.

The next Leaders Council update will follow this evening.
