Chiltern Contracts playing its part in making industry greener

At a time when the efficiency and eco-friendliness of the construction sector is coming under serious scrutiny, one cross-service package contractor is striving to ensure that it pulls its weight when it comes to operating sustainably.

Chiltern Contracts is a business that delivers surfacing works across multiple sectors and boasts years of experience in tiling, cladding, screeding, waterproofing, rendering, stone installation and more. Its portfolio includes numerous high-profile projects, including Harrods, The Savoy Hotel, The Peninsula Hotel, The London Stock Exchange, BBC Studios, Wimbledon Tennis Grounds, The British Museum, The Francis Crick Institute, Sky Studios, InterContinental Hotel at the O2 and The Scalpel.

Under Chiltern Contracts’ own environmental policy, the firm always aims to keep its environmental impact to the absolute minimum, integrating eco-friendliness and sustainability into all its practices.

James Adams, one of the directors of the board for the Chiltern Group of Companies, commented: “It is the policy of the entire Chiltern Contracts Group to minimise our carbon footprint and the responsibility for implementing this policy rests with our management and site staff and is to be practiced by all who work for us.

“The personal role of everyone is to contribute to this objective by making changes, redesigning or enhancing our services and products so as to ensure the best possible working environment for all who work with us or visit us and to minimise our impact on the environment.”

The company board regularly monitors and reviews the success of the environmental policy and its organisational arrangements for delivering on those pledges of raising awareness of climate change and driving positive practices.

The policy extends to cover all aspects of Chiltern Contracts’ work, including energy consumption, energy efficiency and renewable sources, procuring sustainable natural materials, using man-made products that are either recyclable or biodegradable, recycling of materials and waste products, and reducing noise, air, and other forms of pollution.

As part of its wider efforts to operate in an eco-friendly manner, Chiltern Contracts has also partnered up with Kerakoll, the international leader in GreenBuilding, to become an authorised dealer of its adhesive and grout products.

Adams explained: “Kerakoll’s Eco range of products uses fewer natural resources and reduces the impact buildings have on the environment, creating a healthier place for people to live in while also providing the most cost-effective solution. This kind of building makes for healthier living and higher standards of quality and efficiency, and this is what we at Chiltern Contracts are all about.”
