The successful Portsmouth-based hospitality business Becketts Southsea is to feature on Channel 4’s hit reality TV show, Four in a Bed, over a number of episodes airing from today [October 18].
The premise of the show is that four hotel and B&B owners stay overnight at each other’s venues before rating them and deciding whether they should pay the full asking price for their stay.
The guests rate numerous aspects of the experience such as cleanliness, the quality of hosting, breakfast provision, and quality of sleep.
The guests then pay what they believe their experience was really worth, with the weekly winner being the hospitality venue with the highest payment percentage at the end of the week.
Becketts’ general manager, Terence Carvalho [pictured], took part in two weeks of filming for the programme in November 2020, during which he stayed at and reviewed three other South Coast venues and enjoyed hosting his counterparts at Becketts.
Terence, who looks back positively on the experience of filming for the show, hopes that the airtime will entice more people into visiting the local area and thrust the award-winning Becketts even further into the spotlight; with the business having already gone from strength to strength since his arrival.
He told Portsmouth’s The News: “Filming Four in a Bed was an experience in itself and was one of the most exciting parts of 2020 for me. Becketts has thrived throughout the pandemic - even with being fully closed for months, so hopefully the show airing will help it continue to grow even further and gain even more recognition.
“Since arriving at Becketts, my goal was to launch us into the spotlight. I felt we’ve done that in Portsmouth, but I wanted to generate some nationwide attention. We’ve appeared on BBC News a couple of times but to appear on a flagship show on Channel 4 for Four in a Bed is another level.”
