UK firm Atruchecks has entered a new partnership with international laboratory group Eurofins Scientific to help provide an accredited Covid-19 PCR test express service, capable of delivering results within 24 hours.
It is thought that the tests could be key in restarting the airline industry, which has been stricken by the impact of the Covid-19 crisis, by providing such a quick turnaround in results.
The PCR Test, which will be taken at the Eurofins Facility in London, looks for the presence of the virus in samples provided, which are usually taken from the nose and throat.
Crucially, the product is being sold at a cost price to ensure it is financially viable, with the identity of patients taking the tests carefully checked and all samples processed at UKAS accredited laboratory facilities.
Information about positive diagnoses are forwarded onto public health authorities to assist the NHS Test and Trace scheme, which has now been merged with the pandemic response work of Public Health England after the body was axed this week to be replaced by the new National Institute for Health Protection.
Atruchecks CEO Laween Al-Atroshi said: “We have a duty to ensure that people are checked properly with accredited tests to ensure that we minimise the spread of Covid-19, particularly in airports.
“We must also ensure that tests are affordable if we are to save the airline industry from collapsing.”
