In May, over 100 teachers were awarded with the General Teaching Council for Scotland’s Standard for Headship having successfully completed their headship qualification course coordinated by Education Scotland.
Aspiring headteachers in Scotland looking to enter their first permanent headteacher post have been required to acquire the Standard for Headship since it was made compulsory in August 2020.
The successful cohort receiving the Standard this year after completing the 'Into Headship' course were celebrated at the GTC Scotland and Education Scotland Leadership Awards that were hosted virtually last Thursday [May 20].
The ‘Into Headship’ course is Scotland’s national programme for aspiring headteachers and allows them to achieve all the elements required by the Professional Standard.
During the celebrations, a further 24 headteachers already in their posts who had successfully completed Education Scotland's ‘In Headship’ leadership programme were also recognised for their achievements.
The 'In Headship' course is a postgraduate programme targeted toward new headteachers when in their roles, and is geared towards helping them develop further skills, understanding and leadership qualities that will enable them to excel in their positions.
