Career Overview

With a distinguished career spanning more than two decades, Susie Barter has established herself as a prominent figure in the realm of family law. Now Head of Family Law at Child & Child in London, Susie brings a wealth of experience garnered from leadership roles in family law teams and the establishment of her own firm. Having spent two pivotal years immersed in the High Court and Court of Appeal, she gained invaluable insights into the intricacies of higher court proceedings.

Susie is renowned for advising a diverse clientele on a spectrum of issues, including divorce and separation, co-habitation, financial and child-related matters, as well as crafting pre-marital and post-separation agreements. In 2004, she extended her skill set by becoming a trained mediator, a competency she seamlessly integrates into her practice.

Beyond the legal realm, Susie employs her leadership skills as the Chair of Governors at Northbourne Park School, an independent day and boarding preparatory school in Kent. 

Early Career Summary

Susie Barter's legal journey began as a trainee solicitor at city firm Stephenson Harwood LLP, where she gained skills in employment, company commercial, family law, and property. Choosing to specialise in family law, Susie joined the renowned team at Manches, specialising in high-net-worth and international family law. Her commitment to legal excellence led her to the prestigious role of Judicial Assistant in the Court of Appeal, contributing to both the Civil Division and Family Division, learning from the finest legal minds of the time, before returning to private practice with Farrer & Co as a Senior Solicitor in the Family Law Team, demonstrating both her commitment to client outcomes and prowess in both negotiation and court proceedings.

 Susie moved to create her own family law team at Bennett Wilkins Solicitors, before extending her impact by developing the family law offerings at both Speechly Bircham and Rayden Solicitors.    These experiences enabled the formation of Percival Rose & Co. Ltd , Susie’s own boutique family law firm which she led with great success for a decade  showcasing her dedication to client experience and her diverse skills in business management, legal compliance, and strategic planning.

Outside of the law Susie served as a Trustee for the Tormore Trust from 2014 to 2022 and as Governor at Northbourne Park Pre-Prep School from March 2017 demonstrating her dedication to community involvement.   In 2022 Susie accepted the role of Chair of Governors, a post she continues to hold today.

Now the Head of Family Law at Child & Child, she continues to shape the landscape of family law, combining her legal acumen with strategic leadership and a passion for making a positive impact.
