This year’s cohort of Scottish probationer teachers and their supporters in schools and local authorities were celebrated at The General Teaching Council for Scotland's [GTC Scotland] National Probationer Celebration on 9 June 2022.
Over 300 attendees attended the celebratory event, which focused on resilience and featured an array of congratulatory video messages from educators and famous faces.
The probationer teachers who participated in the event completed their probationary period via the Teacher Induction Scheme or the Flexible Route.
Dr Pauline Stephen, chief executive and registrar of GTC Scotland said: “As the teaching profession’s registration and regulation body, trust in teaching and trust in teachers is core to our work. That trust starts with entry to the profession and the registration process.
“The teaching profession sets high standards for itself and this year’s probationer teachers should be rightly proud of their journey of achievement through provisional and into full registration.”
Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, cabinet secretary for education and skills within the Scottish government, addressed the probationers: “It is with great pleasure that I congratulate you all as you enter this exciting chapter in your life and thank you for choosing teaching as a career.
“I really do think that teaching has got to be one of the most rewarding careers in the world and it’s great to welcome so much new talent with so many new ideas because we all know that teachers not only inspire but motivate our children and young people and as you enter this early phase of your career you have the ability to influence our next generation.”
