After a tempestuous 2020, it is safe to say that all of us are relishing the festive season this year, even if Christmas celebrations are to be different compared to the norm. As we approach the most wonderful time of the year, Christmas will once more come as a novelty to the many pets occupying households across the UK, as they become accustomed to the annual outing of twinkling lights, Christmas trees, decorations, and the occasional morsel from seasonal foods.
However, as much as the festive experience may excite our beloved companions, the host of Christmas foods and objects can also bring several risk factors with it. In consideration of this, the grain-free pet food experts at Canagan, Symply’s ultra-premium pet food brand, have provided 15 festive tips to help you take the lead and keep your pets safe within the home at Christmas.
Among the 15 hazards to watch out for, Symply’s experts warn to guard against pets consuming a variety of potentially harmful festive foods, including turkey bones, stuffing and bread sauce, chocolate, Christmas cake, Christmas pudding, mince pies, alcohol, nuts and blue cheese.
Symply also highlight that Christmas plants such as natural Christmas trees, holly, potpourri and poinsettia should be kept out of reach of pets, while batteries and certain small toys should also be kept away from our companions to avoid complications arising from consumption of such objects.
Should unintended consumption of such items unfortunately occur, Symply has covered all bases by providing a helpful guide of what symptoms to look out for and the course of action that should ultimately be taken.
