Journey Enterprises recently conducted a change in leadership at its Acomb hub, as it welcomed former teacher Erica Carter on board as the new hub manager.
Journey Enterprises is an organisation that helps provide support and life & work skills training for people with complex learning disabilities including Down’s, Williams and Prader–Willi syndromes; cerebral palsy; fragile X syndrome; and autism. It operates from four hubs based in Acomb, Northumberland; Coundon in Bishop Auckland, County Durham; Blyth, Northumberland; and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
A resident of Acomb for 20 years, Carter has previously taught elsewhere in the Northeast as well as in London and the Manchester area. She moved into her new role with Journey Enterprises after feeling that it was the appropriate time for a change in career direction.
Carter said: “I feel I’ve been so welcomed by all the clients and staff. I’m very lucky.
“For the last 28 years I was a teacher, and it is a great job, but after doing it for so long I decided that I would really like a change.
“I’m excited about everything that is happening here at the Acomb hub and can’t wait to work with the staff to make it even better!”
